hi everyone who reads my blog posts (except for people from my own group that is!): my group and i are currently doing a Community Problem Solving project in school. our group name is called the Myopia Fighters, and i think you might have guessed from our name, we are trying to help the poor myopic children in the world. we have liaised with an organization called WorldVision, who sends donated spectacles overseas to various countries for the poor myopic children who cannot afford to buy their own spectacles.

our eyes are our windows to the world. imagine if you do not have your spectacles now. the world will be faint and blur, and you will not be able to appreciate the beauty of the many things in the world. you will not be able to do many things comfortably, like play computer games, read (as you are doing now) and many other things like sports. you will not be able to see obstacles, and thus not be able to walk confidently. you will not be able to see far, nor read small print. for people who play music (like me), you will not be able to enjoy playing music or to even play it, as you will have to strain your eyes to read the scores or you might not be able even to read it. you will no longer be able to enjoy the fun and satisfaction of playing music for people to enjoy. for people who do not play music but sing, you will have to strain your eyes to read the lyrics, which will spoil the fun and enjoyment of singing along to your favourite songs and singers. you might not even be able to read the lyrics and will not be able to sing along. you will have difficulty sms-ing your friends and reading their smses. you will be trapped in your own lack of sight. it is a very scary thing.

therefore we hope that you will empathise with those poor children who are unable to enjoy life as we do due to lack of clear vision. help them find a clearer, brighter world. eyesight is one of our most valuable assets. we hope for your kindly donations, to my secondary schoolmates, after our (grimace) morning assembly announcement, for my primary schoolmates and other friends, please contact me at 97348696(hp no) before mid-September. we are aiming for at least 150 spectacles. if you have any old spectacles please donate them to us. thank you very very much.

Remember, some tips on how to take care of your eyesight (not in order of importance):
1) Avoid exposing your eyes to the harmful ultra violet rays of the sun. Protect your eyes from the sun’s rays as much as you can.
2) Drink as much water as you can.
3) Your eyes need vitamins, nutrients and minerals in order to work well and stay strong, like every other part of your body. Eat vegetables such as carrots, celery, tomatoes, spinach, green beans, corn, lettuce, peas, squash and chili peppers. Eat fruits such as apricots, lemons, kiwis, blueberries and bilberries.
4) Blink your eyes for three to four times whenever you feel tired, this eye exercise will relax you.
5) Never rub your eyes when dust or other harmful particles enter your eyes; just blink your eyes several times.
6) Close your eyes and breathe in and circularly move your eyes clockwise and anti-clockwise, alternatively. Repeat it for four to five times. It will relax your eyes.
7) Rub your palms till they get warm, then cover your closed eyes with your warm palm gently. It relaxes your tired eyes. Repeat this eye exercise three to four times.
8) Take small breaks while working on computer. Look at distant entity and get back to your work, this will relax your eyes and increase your concentration for work.
9) Lower your spectacles down on your nose for at least ten minutes every time you go outside so that your eyes can absorb some vitamin D it needs from the sunshine.
10) When you feel tired, keep rounded pieces of raw cucumber or potatoes on closed eyes for 10 minutes. You will feel fresh and stress-free.
